Application OOOOO – Classic ‘retail’ is dead, long live live-streaming sales!

Live stream sales are undoubtedly the latest big hit that has emerged as a result of life in the new normal. According to some predictions, in China alone, 180 billion dollars will be turned over through this method of shopping, and some serious players, such as the owners of the startup OOOOO, claim that their application will forever change the way we shop in the virtual world. Namely, Sam Jones (one of the initiators of Wish) and Eric Zhang (former manager at TikTok) launched the OOOOO application at the end of last year, which they call a hybrid of the famous Amazon and popular TikTok, as it combines the best of both worlds – influencers, entertainment, and sales.

Thematic channels

On OOOOO, users can choose from 25 live channels where influencers and/or experts on specific topics (cosmetics, perfumes, books, bags, etc.) talk about products or services that can then be purchased with a single click. The founders’ idea is to offer entertainment but also efficient sales by connecting sellers and potential buyers and creating an environment where products are discussed without a pre-prepared script, offering honest reviews and encouraging discussions.

Users can also participate in live broadcasts, watch recordings later, or just buy specific products mentioned in a particular video. Each individual channel is tailored for a different audience, i.e., their different interests. For example, on the channel dedicated to books, videos can be watched and discussions can be heard about different genres or individual titles.

Sales revolution

That the application is liked by users is confirmed by the numbers. The OOOOO application is currently number one in the UK on the list of best-selling applications and has over 200 thousand users (individual videos are viewed by about 10 thousand users on average), and the founders plan to expand to the global market. The secret, they claim, lies in the way these videos are created and the fact that products are discussed by carefully selected influencers and experts who undergo special training for live sales. Or, as Jones explained to the media, they do not want ‘fake’ sellers, as they are already full of TV channels.

– We want real people talking about products they love – he explained and added that in this way they want to advertise small businesses that cannot afford more serious campaigns.

The founders of OOOOO are convinced that the ‘retail’ as we knew it will never recover from the pandemic. Consumers will adopt new habits, and sellers new ways to earn a living. OOOOO wants to be part of this great sales revolution.
