Tomislav Kovačević made almost the best marketing move. For almost two weeks, the most powerful people in the country have been talking about his product and the (im)possibility of how to obtain it, and that for a fee of zero kuna.
Let me say right away that I do not like Kovačević’s request to all members, voters, and supporters of HDZ not to come to his Rijeka café Three Monkeys because they are not welcome there.
However, the Facebook post ignited the entire political mainstream. Even the head of HDZ used the bait to mobilize his voting body in ‘red’ Rijeka, after him, obedient party soldiers had to express their opinions, and even the mayor and the county prefect were provoked. And everyone had something to say about party discrimination.
Kovačević thus, with a significant contribution from Plenković, produced what seems to be the most important political event in the country. And what was missing for the whole story to be the best marketing move? It will largely deflate by the time the (HDZ) Headquarters allows normal operation of hospitality facilities. Thus, Kovačević will enter more into neighborhood and city legend than he will financially exploit his five minutes of fame. And the excess in all this is the unspiritual spin-off of Index.hr, or the questionnaire to distinguish people from HDZ members.
Minister Oleg Butković also had to get involved in the story of ‘Three Monkeys’. Last week, the head of the county HDZ announced that he would go for coffee in an anti-HDZ café. At that time, he was still figuratively a possible candidate for the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County prefect, so his statement that ‘the citizens of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, as well as prefect Zlatko Komadina, know well how much the Government invests in that county and works for it’ was interpreted as classic pre-election rhetoric. It was speculated that Butković’s candidacy would be proof that he was poorly positioned with the boss. On Tuesday, a stone fell from his heart – he will not be a sparring partner to the untouchable SDP member Komadina.
