Remember how to conduct small talk about summer vacation at the language school workshops Boutique Lingua in August.
In the first workshop, we reviewed which verb tenses we use to describe how we spent our summer vacation, and in the second and third, which verb tenses we use to express our intentions, predictions, and plans for the upcoming summer vacation.
Summer vacation 3: Our future summer vacation
Now that we have reviewed that to express intention in English we use going to future, and for certain plans Present continuous, let’s also review when to use will future! Will future probably comes to mind first when we think about expressing the future in English. We use it for decisions and offers made at the moment, but also for predictions, so we find it in contexts similar to this:
- Where are you going for your summer vacation?
- I am going to Dugi otok, we are leaving on Monday.
- Have you been there before?
- Yes, we go there every year, we like it a lot. There aren’t many people there, the sea is beautiful and the nature lovely. What about you?
- We are staying in my parents’ house in Zadar. It is actually near Dugi otok!
- If you want, you can come and pay us a visit!
- I will! I can come on Saturday!
In this situation, will is used to express a decision made at the moment of conversation. We can also use it for predictions about someone’s summer vacation, and say I think he will go to Hvar this summer.
