You are about to go on vacation and want peace and quiet? Then you do NOT want to go to these Croatian destinations

In Croatia, from August 1 to August 23, 2.3 million tourists stayed, achieving 17.6 million overnight stays, which is 67 percent of the overnight stays from the same period last year, HTZ reported on Monday based on initial data from the eVisitor system. New HTZ data, which includes tourist traffic in the commercial and non-commercial segment as well as nautical charter, shows that the most overnight stays in the 23 days of August were recorded in Istria, 4.3 million, followed by Kvarner, 3.5 million.

With slightly fewer overnight stays, 3.4 million, follows Split-Dalmatia County, then Zadar with 3.2 million, Šibenik-Knin with 1.4 million, Dubrovnik-Neretva with one million overnight stays and Lika-Senj County with 636 thousand overnight stays.

Evaluating the results so far in August as excellent, HTZ director Kristjan Staničić emphasizes that for September they have very good announcements from foreign partners, primarily from countries where Croatia is not on the so-called red list.

"The realization of further tourist traffic will depend on the epidemiological situation within the country, and it is up to us to continue to behave responsibly and adhere to prescribed measures to reduce the number of infected persons in order to restore the trust of certain countries, given that the lists are revised every two weeks. Together with our representatives, we continue to provide information to foreign media, as well as to the most important partners and agents, especially in the markets of Austria, Germany, Italy, and Slovenia, to whom we present the epidemiological situation in the country by counties," says Staničić.

He also states that last weekend there was a trend of greater 'outflow' of tourists from Austria and Slovenia, while guests from Germany continued their stay in Croatian destinations in large numbers, and although we have been placed on the list of risky countries in the UK market, flights with new British tourists arrive daily at Dubrovnik and Split airports. 

"We appeal to tourist boards to ensure, in accordance with our recommendation from last week, together with tourism entities in their area, testing for coronavirus for all interested tourists to enable them to have a longer and uninterrupted stay in our country," Staničić stated.

From other tourist indicators in August, HTZ reports that the most overnight stays were achieved by Germans, around 4.3 million or 90 percent of last year’s, while domestic tourists were second with 3.3 million overnight stays, which is at last year’s level. Slovenians achieved 2.6 million overnight stays, which is at 94 percent of last year’s overnight stays of Slovenian tourists, while Poles with 1.8 million overnight stays are up 5 percent compared to the same time in August 2019. 

Vir, Rovinj, Medulin, Poreč, Crikvenica, Umag, Mali Lošinj, Novalja, Split and Pula are the destinations with the most overnight stays from August 1 to August 23. According to HTZ data, only last weekend (August 21 to 23), 200 thousand tourists came to Croatia and achieved 1.8 million overnight stays.

In total, from the beginning of this year until August 23, a total of 6.5 million tourists have arrived and more than 44 million overnight stays have been achieved, which is 53 percent of last year’s result in the same period, concludes the HTZ statement.
