Croatian medical students have once again managed to organize a diving course for students from different countries around the world, despite the epidemiological situation that has led to the cancellation of all other student projects, including larger ones globally. This is an exceptional achievement given the circumstances, and the efforts of our medical students have been recognized and supported by their colleagues and excellent students from Austria, Estonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Germany, Poland, Serbia, Switzerland, Spain, and even distant Australia. Students are participating in the summer school organized by the Croatian Medical Students International Association (CroMSIC) this year as well.
Useful and New Knowledge
– We do not only teach students how to dive, but we also educate them through various lectures by the best Croatian experts about hyperbaric and underwater medicine, which is becoming increasingly important in the treatment of conditions caused by staying at great depths, as well as in the treatment of ulcerative colitis, burns, frostbite, diabetes, Crohn’s disease. I am also pleased that the Center for Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine has become a Research Center this year, and several larger scientific papers have already begun examining the benefits of hyperbaric medicine in the treatment of Crohn’s disease, infertility, sudden deafness, etc. – emphasizes Frano Marinelli, president of the Croatian Medical Students International Association.
