A solar power plant worth 10 million euros is rising in Novalja, the local government will receive about 250,000 kuna annually!

In the area of Lika-Senj County, specifically the City of Novalja, the construction of a standalone photovoltaic power plant worth 10 million euros is set to begin soon, which will produce 25GWh of electricity annually. This is a project by RP Global, which has already realized investments in wind farms Danilo in the Šibenik hinterland and Rudine in the Dubrovnik region, and this is their first project of this type in Croatia, according to a statement from the Croatian Chamber of Economy. 

The investment is expected to bring the local government around 250,000 kuna annually, so it is no surprise that local authorities quickly responded to the investor by signing the Financing Agreement for Amendments to the Spatial Plan of Lika-Senj County. This improves the conditions for the construction of solar parks, increasing the percentage of maximum land coverage with solar panels from 25 to 50 percent of the building plot area.

„Before any investment decision, an essential step is meeting with representatives of the local community, and affirmative and active local authorities are the best thing a serious investor can wish for. This further motivates us to justify such a welcome and reciprocate with an open and fair relationship. From project preparation and construction to operation management and maintenance, we strive to employ as many local people as possible. We are talking about modern technology that does not require large-scale employment, but every job is significant to us“, emphasizes the director of RP Global and vice president of the Renewable Energy Community of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, Bojan Reščec, adding that alongside the aforementioned revenues for the local government, they expect broader benefits for the area of Novalja and the island of Pag.

The solar power plant in Novalja is just part of RP Global’s very ambitious plans in Lika-Senj County.

„It is difficult at this moment to talk about specific numbers, but we hope that in the coming years we will be discussing three-digit megawatts and millions of euros in investments“, Reščec states. 

According to the report from HROTE, last year in Croatia, 72,016,131 kWh of electricity was produced from photovoltaic power plants, and the total production of electricity from renewable sources increased by 16.1 percent compared to the previous year. The share of photovoltaic power plants in total installed capacity (MW) is 6 percent.

All installed production capacities of renewable energy sources and cogeneration in 2019, with a total installed capacity of 877.38 MW, produced a total of 2,882,229,100 kWh, with a total of 48.5 MW of new facilities connected to the domestic electricity system.
