DZS: In June, 72 percent fewer arrivals and overnight stays of tourists than in 2019.

In June, Croatia recorded 798 thousand tourist arrivals, which is 72.7 percent less than in June 2019, and 3.6 million overnight stays, or 72.4 percent less, according to data released on Wednesday by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS). As emphasized by the DZS, although measures introduced due to the Covid-19 pandemic began to ease in May 2020 and the epidemiological situation improved, only 798 thousand arrivals and 3.6 million overnight stays were recorded in commercial accommodation facilities in June 2020. 

 Domestic tourists accounted for 156 thousand arrivals and 457 thousand overnight stays in June, which is a decrease of 37.1 percent in arrivals and 43.7 percent in overnight stays compared to June 2019.  At the same time, foreign tourists recorded 642 thousand arrivals and 3.1 million overnight stays, representing a decrease of 76 percent in arrivals and 74.3 percent in overnight stays compared to the previous year.

 Nearly 60 percent of overnight stays by foreign tourists were made by tourists from Germany and Slovenia. According to DZS data, in June, tourists from Germany accounted for 1.1 million overnight stays, which is 35.9 percent of the total overnight stays by foreign tourists.  Following them are tourists from Slovenia with 715 thousand overnight stays, which is 22.8 percent of the total overnight stays by foreign tourists.

The highest number of overnight stays was recorded by tourists in rooms, apartments, and holiday homes, totaling 1.8 million overnight stays, which is 49.4 percent of the total overnight stays in commercial accommodation. This is followed by overnight stays in camps, totaling 1.2 million, which is 32.5 percent of the total overnight stays by tourists.

In the first half of the year, 77.5 percent fewer overnight stays

In the first six months of 2020, tourists recorded 1.5 million arrivals in commercial accommodation facilities, which is 77.5 percent less than in the same period last year, and 5.2 million overnight stays, or 77.1 percent less. Domestic tourists recorded 435 thousand arrivals, or 54 percent less, and 1.1 million overnight stays, which is 54.5 percent less. Foreign tourists, on the other hand, recorded one million arrivals, which is 81.5 percent less than in the same period last year, and 4.2 million overnight stays, or 79.8 percent less.

The highest number of overnight stays by foreign tourists was recorded by tourists from Germany (30.2 percent), followed by those from Slovenia (21.5 percent), Austria (10 percent), the Czech Republic (7.9 percent), Italy (4.4 percent), and Poland (3.6 percent), according to DZS data.
