Marić: No More Delays in Tax and Contribution Payments

Just over 90 thousand taxpayers have requested a deferral or write-off of tax payments, totaling 5.3 billion kuna, and these measures applied to April, May, and June and will no longer be extended, revealed Finance Minister Zdravko Marić to Večernji list.

– The budget was aimed at protecting jobs and the liquidity of the economy, and now pensions need to be paid, healthcare financed… – explained Marić, guesting on Večernji TV, the decision not to extend the tax moratorium for another three months, the daily reports.

– Now it is the banks’ turn. Conditions have been created for banks to lend as much as possible. It is important that liquidity, in the form of favorable loans for working capital, comes to life as much as possible and that entrepreneurs finance their operations this way – concluded Marić.

When asked how much tax liabilities will be written off this year, Marić replied that as of June 20, the measures related to the write-off of tax liabilities have ended.

– This measure lasted until June 20. Starting Monday, July 20, taxpayers were obliged to submit VAT forms, which was planned. So far, just over 90 thousand requests have been approved. This means that 90 thousand taxpayers have requested a deferral, depending on the criteria, a full, partial write-off, or installment repayment due to a drop in income. The total request so far is 5.3 billion kuna – said Marić.

He added that of those 90 thousand taxpayers, 80 thousand submitted a request for deferral in the first 20 days since the economy was locked down. For most of them, the measures will apply for the entire period of April, May, and June.

– When they now submit VAT forms for June, we will have a complete picture and the tax administration will again make great efforts to immediately conduct that analysis next week because we are looking at April, May, and June in relation to the same period a year before – said Minister Marić.

He reminded that those with a drop in income greater than 50 percent fall into the category for tax write-off and that this does not apply to VAT, excise duties, and customs, but to direct taxes, income, and profits, reports Večernji list.
