LinkedIn has a new option: The end of awkwardness in addressing business contacts

Do you know that awkward moment when you have to introduce the next speaker or address a foreign partner, and you actually have no idea how to correctly pronounce their name? LinkedIn has concluded that it is time for people in the business world, just like Hollywood stars and esteemed politicians, to have an audio recording button for the correct pronunciation of their name, which they set themselves, meaning it is one hundred percent accurate.

The option is currently only available on the LinkedIn app for Android and iOS operating systems.

Here’s how you can make life easier for your business contacts:

  • Tap on the profile picture and select View Profile
  • Select the Edit icon
  • Record name pronunciation and hold the recording button until you record the pronunciation (you can repeat this action until you are satisfied)
  • When you are satisfied with the recording, press Use
  • Finally, select Save

A few additional tips

  • Be mindful of the time, the recording must last up to 10 seconds
  • Make sure there is no background noise
  • Speak slowly and pronounce each syllable clearly
  • Hold the smartphone at least 10 centimeters away from your mouth

The new feature comes after the ‘Stories’ innovation that the business social network LinkedIn launched in Australia. Users there can now, just like on Facebook and Instagram, take photos or record videos lasting 20 seconds and post them online for their contacts to see.
