Since the beginning of the pandemic, European airlines have received enormous support from their governments. For example, German Lufthansa, currently the fourth largest airline in the world, received 9 billion euros in aid from the German government, the highest of all German corporations.

However, Lufthansa is not an exception. Dutch KLM has also been supported by a government package of 3.4 billion euros, while France announced support for Air France amounting to 7 billion euros.

Among other airlines in Europe, TUI, Swiss Airlanes, TAP Portugal, and Finnair have also received over a billion euros in aid.
