The Ifo business climate index jumped by 6.5 points in June compared to the revised value in May, reaching 86.2 points. This increase is the largest since the reunification of Germany in 1990, when Ifo began publishing reports. The assessment of business leaders regarding the current state of business has also slightly improved, reflected in a rise of the corresponding index by 2.4 points, to 81.3 points.
– Companies are rating current business slightly better, and their expectations (for the upcoming period) have surged strongly – states Ifo leader Clemens Fuest in a statement.
The most improved expectations are in the industry, and pessimism in the service sector has significantly diminished, with leaders expecting improvements in business over the next six months. Recovery is also anticipated in retail and the construction sector.
