Every company that wants to maintain its competitiveness in the market in line with the development of digital technologies faces an increasingly rapid pace of innovation and the development of available solutions every day. In recent years, the greatest focus has been on cloud technologies and artificial intelligence (AI), which are mentioned daily as key to the digital transformation of every company, regardless of its industry. One of the key values that need to be focused on, and which is often overlooked in standard business operations, is the data at hand. By organizing and analyzing data in business, it is possible to create additional revenue opportunities, increase competitiveness, market share, and accelerate the delivery of products to the market.

How does cloud technology and AI fit into the entire concept of digital transformation, organization, and data analysis?

In standard business operations, an exceptionally large amount of data is generated during the filling of digital data warehouses, generated by the applications used, generated files that serve daily operations, as well as the use of various web services. The most common current way in which all this data is processed and collected is in so-called monolithic architectures, specifically, applications that contain all services for processing, storing, and displaying data in one „closed“ package. This way of operating applications and systems often requires high investment costs in hardware, human resources for maintenance, and also complicates and slows down the processes of upgrading to newer versions due to the larger number of different applications.

As the most modern solution for collecting, processing, and analyzing data  in companies, we can recommend IBM Cloud Pak for Data.

IBM Cloud Pak for Data is an integrated cloud platform that forms a separate part of the overall IBM Cloud Pak platform offering and serves for processing and analyzing data. It implements advanced AI into business processes and serves to modernize the way companies collect, organize, and analyze data. Built on the Red Hat OpenShift Container platform, IBM Cloud Pak for Data integrates world-leading IBM Watson AI technology with the IBM Hybrid platform for data management, DataOps, and data governance and business analytics technologies. Combined, these technologies provide an information architecture for implementing AI systems that meet the constantly changing needs of every form of business.

The greatest value of the aforementioned system lies in the fact that the complete set of tools and services needed for comprehensive data work is implemented under one integrated platform, making costs for hardware infrastructure lower and reducing the time and resources needed for implementation and overall maintenance. The IBM Cloud Pak for Data system is divided into microservices, which, with a larger number of smaller, application-focused services, achieves significant acceleration of work and load distribution across the physical server cluster for the most efficient execution of assigned tasks, thereby following the trend of modern software development from the previously mentioned monolithic structure to SOA – u (Service Oriented Architecture).

IBM Cloud Pak for Data includes a complete set of tools for data processing and analysis from the very beginning, specifically, collecting data from various sources, through their processing to report creation, visualizations, etc.

IBM Cloud Pak for Data can be implemented in three different ways: On Premise, Hybrid, and Cloud. If regulations, laws, or the profession do not allow a company to „send“ its data to an external cloud, the entire IBM Cloud Pak for Data system can be set up On Premise, on its own infrastructure. If only a part of the data should not „leave“ the internal network, there is the possibility of implementation in a so-called hybrid mode, where the sensitive part of the data and its processing and/or analytics are within the network, while less sensitive data is on the cloud. Where regulations allow, the entire IBM Cloud Pak for Data system can be in a dedicated cloud, without the need for internal infrastructure, resulting in reduced infrastructure costs (infrastructure and maintenance).
