Telephoning: Changing appointments
After greetings, introductions, and after we ask for the person we want to speak to and express the purpose of the call with Good morning, my name is Ivica. I would like to speak to Marina Horvat. Hi, Marina, the reason I’m calling is… we can arrange a meeting with expressions like Would Monday suit you? However, if we want to change an appointment with business associates, we will use the following expressions.
To tell associates that a certain day does not work for us, we can use: I’m afraid I can’t come on Monday, I am very busy that day or I’m sorry, I can’t make it on Tuesday. I’ve got something on that morning. We can also say We’ve got an appointment for ten o’clock, but I’m afraid something’s come up. To ask a business associate for another meeting time, we can say Could we fix another time? Can we schedule our meeting for some other day?
