Ahead of World Environment Day, in response to the growing problem of plastic pollution whose particles are increasingly found in our food, water, humans, and animals, bio&bio, a domestic chain of stores with 100% organic food, presents an innovation in the market by packaging its products in compostable packaging. This is a pioneering project of investment by a business entity in such product sustainability, and the compostable film itself is an innovation used by only a few European food manufacturers.
„For several years, we have been exploring options to reduce plastic usage, and we are extremely proud and happy to present the first compostable packaging of the bio&bio brand to our customers. bio&bio stores have been dedicated to sustainability for 17 years since their inception, which is primarily reflected in the selection of products and food exclusively with organic certification, as well as projects promoting domestic organic production, and our steps in this direction are a logical continuation.“, said Jadranka Boban Pejić, director of Biovega, under which bio&bio stores operate.
This compostable packaging is made from cellulose fibers and completely decomposes, becoming part of the environment as natural waste. It is suitable for organic recycling and meets the strict criteria of the European standard EN 13432 on industrial compostability. To facilitate disposal for customers, the label on the packaging is also compostable, allowing the entire packaging to be disposed of in organic waste. You will recognize the products by the compostable packaging certification on the label, as well as by the crinkly texture.
