Minister Butković Dismisses Entire Management of HŽ Cargo

– The management of HŽ Cargo was dismissed yesterday – said Butković in response to journalists’ questions about the dismissal of HŽ Cargo director Gordan Žurga.  

When asked if he is allowed to do this while the Government is technical, the minister replied that he is allowed, but he cannot appoint a new management for a full term, only a temporary management. 

– I am the Assembly of the company. There was an assembly and the Management was dismissed – Butković reiterated and explained that this was done due to their poor business results.

– I assessed that I need to do this, as the data shows that revenue in the first three months fell by 23 million kuna compared to the same period last year. In the past two months, employees were paid salaries without taxes and contributions. The revenue of HŽ Cargo is continuously declining, even though during the coronavirus crisis everything was concentrated on freight transport, by rail, and later by trucks. The situation is not good, that was my assessment and I made such a decision as the assembly – he said. 

He also added that he has the right to appoint a temporary management, which he will do, but regarding the details, when and whom, he only said 'you will hear in due time'.

The management of HŽ Cargo, as learned from the company, consisted of one person, director Gordan Žurga, and neither from that company nor from the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure could provide more information about this dismissal for now. 

Žurga himself said this morning, while guesting on HTV’s show, that he was dismissed by the decision of the relevant minister, that he received the dismissal decision yesterday shortly after 3 PM, and that he does not know the reasons for his dismissal.

– We expect the position of the Prime Minister who has so far supported all restructuring in HŽ Cargo and thanks to whom we have survived – Žurga said on HTV, adding that they have given a chance to small people.

Butković confirmed to journalists before the Government session that the seasonal increase in ferry passenger transport prices this year is postponed. This is logical, after the abandonment of this season’s increase in toll prices, he said, adding that he wants to enable easier and more affordable movement and transport for domestic people, as well as for foreigners who will come to Croatia.
