Facebook bans advertising of political texts unless the advertiser has special approval

Facebook has started controlling ads on its platforms since the EU elections, so for posts with political content, you need to have their approval. These campaigns remain publicly available for SEVEN years after publication, and by clicking a button, you can obtain data on the amount spent and the number of views.

Why is this the case?

Facebook has been accused of participating in Russian interference during Donald Trump’s election, and due to significant pressure for similar issues, such as 'fake news', to occur worldwide, they decided to take action. Thus, their algorithm will not approve the promotion of posts related to politics unless the advertiser has special approval.

This will prevent the promotion of fake news that has frequently started appearing on that platform. Facebook has also opened two regional operational centers for elections in Dublin and Singapore, in addition to the existing one in the U.S. headquarters in Menlo Park, to be able to respond to possible interference attempts at any time.

You can see everything

Now on Facebook’s platform called Gallery, you can see everything about the ads of individual candidates. From how much money they spent on Facebook ads to which people and areas they targeted, as well as the appearance of the ads themselves. Just like political ads, you can also see what your competition is doing, but in that case, you can only see the appearance of the ads.

Alongside Facebook, Google has also opted for a similar practice, making it much harder to spread fake news through paid ads at this time.
