In Kvarner, more and more guests are expected, but around 30 percent of last year’s tourist traffic is anticipated

This summer, Kvarner expects to achieve around 30 percent of last year’s tourist traffic, as reservations for summer from the main markets have not been canceled, and interest from tourists in visiting the region continues, reported on Tuesday the director of TZ Kvarner Irena Peršić Živadinov.

In May, 39 hotels and 11 camps opened in Kvarner, and Peršić Živadinov says that a larger number of accommodation facilities are preparing to open in June, depending on the further opening of borders and the lifting of travel bans.

– All of Croatia, including the Kvarner region, is among the best in Europe in terms of the reactions of services for organized implementation of protective measures and preservation of the epidemiological situation, which has also been contributed to by accommodation and catering facilities through their closures. This has allowed us to be ready for the start of the summer tourist season faster than other countries – she assesses.

According to her, it is now important that a unified approach to the arrival of guests and their return to their home countries is agreed upon at the EU level as soon as possible, as well as the introduction of an application that will enable guests a quick process for crossing the Croatian border. Currently, Croatia’s strongest advantage is considered to be its proximity and quick accessibility by car.

– The possibility of unobstructed and quick border crossing and the conditions for returning to the home country will greatly affect the final results of the summer tourist season – believes Peršić Živadinov.

With the easing of measures in the first 10 days of May, there were 14 thousand overnight stays in Kvarner, and in the next 10 days, 43 thousand, she notes. For example, Slovenians achieved 1550 overnight stays in Kvarner on the first weekend of easing measures, which is only 22 percent of the number from the same weekend in 2019, while already the following weekend, their overnight stays were 9150 or 58 percent of the same weekend last year.

– The easing of measures and the decision on the relaxation of border crossing conditions from Austria and Germany are important to us, considering that these tourists account for 15 and 30 percent of the total overnight stays in Kvarner – says Peršić Živadinov, emphasizing that Croatia is among the top sought-after destinations according to a survey in Germany.

She also notes that TZ Kvarner has been in constant communication with domestic and foreign tourism journalists, bloggers, and agents, with foreign representatives of HTZ and other partners to respond promptly and to be able to organize press trips as soon as possible.
