The President of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, has formally submitted a decision on the dissolution of the Parliament to the representatives and committee chairs, which was proposed by six clubs of the ruling majority.
The decision, under which the Parliament will be dissolved on Monday, May 18, was formally proposed by the clubs of HDZ, HNS, HDS/HSLS/HDSSB, national minorities, SDSS, and the Labor and Solidarity Party. The dissolution was proposed because, after it comes into effect, a decision on calling parliamentary elections will follow, which is made by the President of the Republic.

Elections for the Parliament are held no later than 60 days after the expiration of the mandate or the dissolution of the Parliament, and representatives are elected for a term of four years. The current 9th parliamentary term was constituted on October 14, 2016, when ‘Bridge’ member Božo Petrov was elected as its president, serving until May 2017, when Jandroković was elected president after the split between Bridge and HDZ.
The dissolution of the Parliament on Monday, May 18, was announced on Thursday by the Prime Minister and HDZ leader Andrej Plenković, who informed the President of the Republic, Zoran Milanović, who has the option to call elections for June 21 or 28, and July 5 or 12. The government has achieved all key ambitions it set for itself in the past three years and seven months, the Prime Minister explained this decision.
