The app, which citizens will be able to use for free on their mobile devices, will contain information about non-compliant products that are being recalled from the market, which are still available on the market and within their shelf life.
Information is collected through The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), and information that the Ministry of Agriculture updates in real-time will be sent to citizens via app notifications.
The notification will include a display of food alerts and additional information about the non-compliant product (product name and image, expiration date, type of health risk, actions taken by the competent authorities, distribution status, etc.) as well as data about the food business operator that placed the product on the market, the statement said.

Additionally, the app will contain educational information for consumers such as what increased levels of lead in fish mean and how it affects human health, what aflatoxins are, what amounts of additives and flavors are permitted in food products, and similar information that interests citizens.
– I believe that all of us, as buyers and consumers, have the right to be promptly informed that unsafe food is on the market – said Minister of Agriculture Marija Vučković.
Notification via the website is just one way of informing consumers, Vučković said, adding that in line with available communication tools and the desire to make information as accessible as possible to a larger number of people they have developed a mobile app that will inform citizens for free and instantly about dangerous products being recalled from the market.
– I believe that in this way we will contribute to faster consumer information and raise the awareness of all citizens about how all those involved in the food control system operate in the common market of the European Union – she emphasized.
The app offers two menus – in the ‘RASFF’ menu, all notifications at the EU level are in English, while in the ‘Ministry of Agriculture’ menu, there is information in Croatian that relates only to the Croatian market.
Users will be able to share notifications from the app on social media, and the app can be downloaded for Android devices on Google Play Store and for iOS on the App Store, the statement notes.
