As part of the Yaris family Yaris Cross is constructed on Toyota’s new compact car platform and shares ‘big-small’ design and concept that characterized the original Yaris, representing a spacious interior within compact exterior dimensions. The Yaris and Yaris Cross are the first models to be powered by Toyota’s latest 1.5-liter hybrid system developed directly from the larger two-liter and 2.5-liter powertrains found in recently introduced models such as the Corolla, C-HR, RAV4, and Camry.
Hybrid Powertrain
The Yaris system features a new 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with the Atkinson cycle, precisely engineered to reduce friction and mechanical losses while optimizing combustion speed. The result is high torque at low speeds with exceptional fuel efficiency and a maximum power output of 116 hp.
The Yaris Cross has the same wheelbase of 2560 mm as the new Yaris hatchback, but is overall 240 mm longer due to a front overhang that is 60 mm larger and a rear overhang that is 180 mm larger, thereby increasing interior space. Ground clearance has been raised by 30 mm, and the vehicle is overall taller and wider – by 90 mm and 20 mm, respectively.
