As part of the Yaris family Yaris Cross is constructed on Toyota’s new compact car platform and shares ‘big-small’ design and concept that characterized the original Yaris, representing a spacious interior within compact exterior dimensions. The Yaris and Yaris Cross are the first models to be powered by Toyota’s latest 1.5-liter hybrid system developed directly from the larger two-liter and 2.5-liter powertrains found in recently introduced models such as the Corolla, C-HR, RAV4, and Camry.

Hybrid Powertrain

The Yaris system features a new 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with the Atkinson cycle, precisely engineered to reduce friction and mechanical losses while optimizing combustion speed. The result is high torque at low speeds with exceptional fuel efficiency and a maximum power output of 116 hp.

The Yaris Cross has the same wheelbase of 2560 mm as the new Yaris hatchback, but is overall 240 mm longer due to a front overhang that is 60 mm larger and a rear overhang that is 180 mm larger, thereby increasing interior space. Ground clearance has been raised by 30 mm, and the vehicle is overall taller and wider – by 90 mm and 20 mm, respectively.

The Yaris Cross is as spacious as it is practical. With all seats upright and the cargo cover in place, the trunk volume is 390 liters. However, if you need a more spacious trunk, there are foldable rear seats, allowing for passenger transport alongside larger cargo.

Advanced Assistance System

The foundation of the safety performance of the new Yaris Cross is its GA-B platform, which gives the vehicle exceptional body rigidity.

In an effort to meet the highest and strictest standards of independent testing, it is equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense active safety system and advanced driving assistance features that help avoid a wide range of common road hazards by providing the driver with information, early warnings, and, when necessary, automatic braking and steering intervention. The Yaris
Cross will be produced in France, with more than 150,000 units per year, and sales in the European market are expected to begin in 2021.
