The series The Big Bang Theory will conclude in May 2019, after 12 seasons and a record 279 episodes, reports Variety.
The final season will begin airing on September 24.

“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support. Together with the actors, writers, and the entire team, we are extremely thankful for the success of the series, and our goal is to create a final season and episode that will give The Big Bang Theory a creative ending,” states a statement signed by Warner Bros. Television, Chuck Lorre Productions, and CBS.
According to some sources, the decision not to film additional seasons was made because Warner Bros.’ contracts with CBS and the cast had expired, and the appetite for another grueling round of negotiations was weak on all sides.
However, Hollywood Reporter writes that negotiations are ongoing and that a continuation of the popular series is possible.
Previous negotiations with the cast lasted for months, and the original main cast members – Jim Parsons, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg, Kaley Cuoco, and Johnny Galecki agreed to forgo part of their salaries to increase the pay of their colleagues Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik.
Jim Parsons, who has won four Emmys for his role as Sheldon Cooper, signaled that he is ready to leave. His departure would mean a significant reconfiguration of the series, which the producers were unwilling to undertake. Ultimately, it was decided that it was best to end the series while it is still performing well.

Since its premiere in 2007, The Big Bang Theory has won 52 nominations and 10 Emmy awards, as well as seven Golden Globe nominations.
It is one of the biggest shows on television, with the 11th season averaging 18.9 million viewers, as did the 10th season.
The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) announced in 2015 its first scholarship created and named after the series. The Big Bang Theory scholarship is intended for students who need financial assistance and wish to obtain higher education in STEM fields – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
