Marić on transcripts: I acted in the national interest, DORH dismissed the complaint

Finance Minister Zdravko Marić stated on Thursday that he has not seen the entire transcript of the testimony of Martina Dalić and others before DORH, which suggests that he attended more meetings regarding Agrokor than he stated at the Conflict of Interest Commission, and he conveyed that DORH dismissed the criminal complaint, thus closing the topic.

“I have not seen the entire transcript, the only thing I can say is that DORH dismissed the criminal complaint on this topic, and that is a closed topic,” Marić told reporters ahead of the Government session.

Marić: I acted exclusively in the national interest

Commenting on the part of the transcript stating that Marić advised the working group, the minister said he acted exclusively in the national interest.

Even when asked again whether he advised the working group on the reactions of Ivica Todorić, he had no comment, but repeated that DORH dismissed the criminal complaint.

When directly asked if he lied at the Conflict of Interest Commission about the number of meetings he attended, Marić said: “That is a very difficult question you are asking me, I did not lie to anyone.”

“I repeat once again, the complaint has been dismissed, in all the meetings I participated in, I participated exclusively defending the economic and national interests of Croatia and the interests of taxpayers,” Marić said.

Ministers: DORH dismissed the criminal complaint

Economy Minister Darko Horvat also emphasized that DORH dismissed the criminal complaint and that he has no intention of doubting and verifying those claims.

“I believe that the Croatian Government must not succumb to media pressures and such speculations, and what I believe is the statement and resolution of DORH,” Horvat said.

Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Gabrijela Žalac also reiterated that DORH dismissed the criminal complaint.

“I believe that this topic is closed, and the Government has done everything for the economy, and the public needs to know that,” Žalac said.

Administration Minister Lovro Kuščević stated that he sees the whole situation as an attempt to diminish the Government’s rescue of Agrokor and all companies and jobs.

“A criminal complaint has been filed for everything that happened around Agrokor, and the public knows that USKOK dismissed that criminal complaint,” he said.

Kuščević: This is a “shot in the dark”

When asked if it is true that Martina Dalić lied, Kuščević said that the entire process is transparent. “USKOK rejected the indictments, and Agrokor has been saved and thousands of jobs are here. Therefore, this is a ‘shot in the dark,'” Kuščević asserted.

Veterans Minister Tomo Medved emphasized that two things are key – DORH dismissed the complaint, and discussions were held to protect the national interest, i.e., the Croatian economy. “I did not recognize anything controversial in that,” he said.

N1 television reported that from the testimony of former Deputy Prime Minister Martina Dalić to USKOK, following the criminal complaint by Živi zid, it is learned that Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, as well as the top of HDZ, were aware from the beginning of the formation of the working group for Agrokor initiated by Most on the condition that the finance minister does not participate in the entire process.

According to the testimony, Zdravko Marić attended seven, not just two meetings discussed by the Conflict of Interest Commission.

Extensive testimonies detail reports for Agrokor, the formation of working groups, the so-called Borg group, as well as pressures from the former Deputy Prime Minister on the media and her cooperation with the heads of Fina and SOA.

The entry of lawyer Boris Šavorić is also mentioned, who brought the translation of the Italian law on the restructuring of systemically important companies to the working group, as well as the governor of HNB Boris Vujčić.

Based on the testimonies of Martina Dalić, Ante Ramljak, and Zoran Besak, as reported by N1, the criminal complaint against Dalić filed by the parties Živi zid and Slobodna Hrvatska has been dismissed.
