Uber will have to pay large sums to settle with 56 former and current employees, as well as 485 women and minority members who were victims of discrimination, writes Business Insider.

Each plaintiff will receive an average of $34,000, and the total settlement amount will cost the company $1.9 million. These 56 plaintiffs are part of a group of engineers consisting of 485 women and minority members who complain about unequal pay. Each of them will receive $11,000, totaling $5.3 million. When all these amounts are added up, Uber will have to pay $7.2 million in damages.
Before payment, the court must approve the settlement in November, and Uber has the right to appeal.

This is the latest in a series of stories about discrimination at Uber, which led to the resignation of the head of human resources in July after an internal investigation, accused of dismissing complaints of racial discrimination received from employees.
