At a trial in New York, Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal lawyer, pleaded guilty to eight counts of indictment, including tax and bank fraud and violations of campaign finance laws, reports HRT.
The lawyer admitted to paying $130,000 and $150,000 to two women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump in exchange for their silence, at the request of the current U.S. president. The goal was to prevent the dissemination of information “that could harm the candidate” while the presidential campaign was ongoing.
The admission is a blow to Trump as it suggests that he may have committed a crime himself, writes Al Jazeera.
