In Croatia, only 30 percent of tourist overnight stays are in hotels, which is convincingly the lowest share in the European Union, where the average is even double that – 62 percent.
Above Croatia are the United Kingdom with 39 percent, followed by the Netherlands with 42 percent and Belgium with 47 percent.

Among the countries with which Croatia likes to compare itself, in Italy, hotels account for 66 percent of all tourist overnight stays, in Spain 73 percent, and in Greece as much as 78 percent, emphasized entrepreneur Nenad Bakić on his blog Eclectica.

Among other things, it can be seen that the increase in accommodation in hotels on the Adriatic in 2016 was just slightly above the EU average, while all other accommodation in Croatia grew twice as fast as hotel accommodation.
In total, there were 31.4 million beds in the European Union in 2016, the most in France – 5.1 million, in Italy 4.9 million, and in Spain 3.5 million.

Interestingly, from 2005 to 2016, the number of overnight stays in tourist accommodation in the EU increased by 26 percent, with the difference that the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 40 percent, while domestic tourists increased by 15 percent.
