Softnet is the first in Croatia to provide direct access to content in China

The company Softnet is the first in Croatia to start offering direct access services to content in China through the Alibaba Cloud Express and Tencent Direct Connect platforms. Application developers for the Chinese and broader Asian market now have quick access to content from these countries and can connect it to their platforms, the telecommunications company states, which bases its operations on direct connections to a ‘Tier 1 backbone’ network with low latency through its own and virtual access points in Europe and Asia.

Softnet connects Europe and Asia via overhead optical lines through Russia to guarantee the lowest possible latency, unlike most internet lines that connect these continents through underground cables in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans.

– The latest service for Softnet’s clients allows the transfer of desired data to remote servers. Thanks to cloud computing, they are no longer physically limited to using a specific computer but can access and process data from any location and at their convenience, explained Andrej Boštjančič, director of Softnet.

Certain functionalities on the internet in China are much slower than elsewhere in the world, and part of the web is completely inaccessible. With the help of Softnet’s latest service, application developers for the Chinese and Asian market have quick access to content and can connect it with the rest of their platforms.

– We are the first operator to offer this service in Slovenia and Croatia, but we also offer it to all application developers from across Europe, said Boštjančič.

The most well-known providers of these services in the West are, according to Boštjančič, Amazon and Microsoft, while in Asia, especially in China, they are Alibaba’s and Tencent’s clouds. Alibaba mainly due to its B2B platform, and Tencent due to its WeChat application, believes the director of Softnet.

– There are many doubts about using cloud computing due to data security. However, for many companies today, the bigger problem is data loss than a bad investment. The cloud has somehow become a place for data storage, and for many, it is already common to have a service that allows downloading desired data from remote servers, believes Boštjančič.
