In Split this weekend 150 thousand passengers, in Makarska 60,000 guests

An incredible 150 thousand passengers will pass through the two Split ports this weekend: the airport, through which the three millionth passenger will pass for the first time ever, and the ferry port, which continues to introduce extraordinary lines to transport all interested parties to and from the islands.

This weekend, 51 thousand passengers will pass through Split Airport, serviced by 207 aircraft. Mate Melvan from Split Airport states that today alone, 110 aircraft will land and take off from the runway in Resnik, while tomorrow, 97 aircraft will perform the same operation. He mentioned that the ‘two millionth’ passenger passed through this airport on August 13.

“The first millionth passenger passed through Resnik on June 30, the second on August 13, and we expect the third by the end of the summer season, which we will mark. We have a cumulative increase of 12 percent in the first seven months,” Melvan told Hina, expressing his satisfaction.

At the Split port, around one hundred thousand people are expected to arrive and depart this weekend, traveling to and from the surrounding islands. Specifically, 90 thousand people will be at the port on Saturday and Sunday, along with 16 thousand vehicles. Additionally, there will be 4,500 passengers from the trabakula and five thousand people arriving in the city under Marjan on a total of four cruise ships.

“Today we also had the Tin Ujević, which departed for Supetar on Brač at 11:45, while Marko Polo will operate twice today on the line to Starigrad and has a much larger capacity for people and vehicles. At least one more trip to Supetar will be made by Tin Ujević before tonight. We noticed that today we have a greater pressure from the islands, although we still have departures from Split to the islands,” said Danijela Ivanović from Jadrolinija to Hina.

Makarska Riviera: More departures than arrivals

The penultimate weekend of August on the Makarska Riviera is marked by a significant turnover of tourists, with more departures than arrivals of guests and expected heavy traffic congestion on the roads and at the ferry ports.

On the state road D8, there are very long queues with occasional shorter stops, and larger traffic jams are forming at the approaches to Makarska and other tourist destinations.

On the route Makarska–Vrgorac and the fast road from Baško Polje to the Sveti Ilija tunnel and further to the highway, traffic is also significantly increased in both directions, with vehicle queues forming at the toll booths, larger at the entrance than at the exit from the highway near Zagvozd.

On the Drvenik–Sučuraj line, two ferries are operating, with a waiting time of about one hour for boarding in Drvenik, and about two hours on the island of Hvar.

On the Makarska–Sumartin line, during two morning sailings, the ferry was unable to board all passengers and vehicles for the island of Brač, and the number of vehicles waiting is sufficient for the first afternoon sailing.

At the Makarska bus station, where more than a hundred bus lines from our country and from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia arrive daily, buses come and go fully booked, with available seats only to Split and Dubrovnik.

Regarding the record seven-month tourist performance with 512,000 tourist arrivals and 3,120,000 overnight stays, and the very high occupancy of all accommodation capacities in the first half of August, all tourist offices report, and this is confirmed by hoteliers from the coast who host around 13,500 tourists. Most hotel establishments have reduced their service prices compared to the peak of summer, and hoteliers continue to recommend prior booking of accommodation, which is also necessary for holiday homes, while there are still available places in private accommodation.

The director of the Makarska Tourist Office, Hloverka Novak Srzić, announces good occupancy of accommodation capacities for the continuation of summer, which is confirmed by Valentina Vitković, director of the office in Brela, as well as Ante Jurišić, director of the Baška Voda Tourist Office, while the same is stated in other tourist offices on the coast. They also confirm that this weekend is the first of this summer with more departures than arrivals of guests, estimating that after the weekend, more than 60,000 guests will continue their vacation on the Makarska Riviera.
