The Slovenian parliament elected Marjan Šarec as the mandatar of the new government on Friday.

The former mayor of the small municipality of Kamnik and professional actor was supported by 55 out of 90 representatives in the National Assembly through a secret ballot.
Thirty-one voted against, and one ballot was invalid.
Marjan Šarec’s list (LMŠ) formed a coalition with the Social Democrats (SD), the Modern Centre Party (SMC), the Pensioners’ Party (DESUS), and the SAB party of former Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek.
Two minority representatives and the Left Party (L), which will not enter the government but will support it in parliament, also voted for Šarec.
Before the vote, Šarec announced that his priority is to improve the situation in healthcare, that he will continue the policy of integrating Slovenia into the core of EU countries, and that he will advocate for good relations with neighbors.

The mandatar must propose future ministers to parliament within 15 days, who will be voted on in the middle of next month.
