The Spanish La Liga announced on Thursday that it plans to organize league matches outside of Spain in the USA, reports BBC.
“La Liga and Relevent, a multinational media company, today announced a joint venture aimed at promoting football in the USA and Canada,” states the joint press release.

“As part of the agreement, La Liga plans to organize a regular league match in the USA, the first to be played outside Europe,” the statement adds, although it does not specify when this first match could take place.
Real Madrid and Barcelona recently returned from a preseason tour in the USA where they played friendly matches against European clubs Milan, Roma, Tottenham, and Manchester United at the International Champions Cup, a tournament organized by Relevent.

In July 2017, Barcelona and Real Madrid played a friendly ‘el Clasico’ for which the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami was sold out.
