“We contribute to true social progress through fidelity to the Gospel, openness to the Word of God, and the realization of the principles of the Church’s social teaching, which requires me to respect the dignity and rights of other people around me and every human being; which tells me that work takes precedence over capital; which emphasizes and shows that unemployment is more expensive than the welfare state; which encourages me towards social justice, which requires honesty and ethics from me,” said Archbishop of Đakovo and Osijek and Metropolitan Đuro Hranić while leading the mass on the Feast of the Assumption in Aljmaš, the largest Marian shrine in Slavonia.

“As an employer, it requires me to know how to value the work of others and to see the worker as my brother, to know how to appreciate his competencies, expertise, and knowledge, and to strive to reward him fairly, on time, and regularly with a fair wage – aware that the stability and future of my company largely depend on my satisfied worker; that my weaknesses and sins destroy not only my relationship with God but also my relationship with other people, that I am not allowed to be selfish and self-sufficient, that I must not live luxuriously at the expense of my workers and their wages,” Archbishop Hranić further conveyed.
