The Croatian Police Seek a Red Notice for Hernadi

The Croatian police have once again requested Interpol to issue a so-called red notice for Zsolt Hernadi, following the announcement by the European Court in Luxembourg that Hungary should not have ignored the European arrest warrant in the case of the head of the Hungarian MOL.

“The Police Directorate has submitted the ruling of the European Court in Luxembourg to the Legal Service, the Executive Board, and the General Secretariat of Interpol with a request to reintroduce the notice into Interpol’s database of wanted persons,” states the Ministry of the Interior’s announcement published on the N1 website N1.

The European Court in Luxembourg announced at the end of July that Hungary should not have ignored the European arrest warrant in Hernadi’s case solely based on the decision of their public prosecutor’s office to suspend the criminal investigation in which Hernadi was questioned as a witness.

“Judicial authorities of member states are obliged to make a decision on every European arrest warrant sent to them,” the court emphasized.

Hernadi’s Croatian lawyer subsequently warned that the European Court of Justice did not state in any part of the ruling that Hungary must extradite Hernadi, but that the Hungarian court is obliged to decide on the Croatian request for his extradition.

The European arrest warrant for Hernadi, which some countries have ignored, was issued following Uskok’s accusations that he gave former Prime Minister and HDZ president Ivo Sanader 10 million euros in bribes to transfer management rights in INA to MOL.
