The technology startup Prostec is the winner of the Croatian qualifying competition for the University Startup World Cup 2018 – USWC 2018, which will be held in Denmark this autumn. With this victory, Prostec has established itself as the currently most successful student startup in Croatia.

Prostec is a technology startup aimed at improving the efficiency of production and operations of animal farms, both in Croatia and globally. It consists of four students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb – Filip, Marin Parmać, Luka Posilović, and Karlo Siladi, along with Goran Mikec, a student from the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb.

Prostec (the purger name for a stake) is a system that consists of electronic tags for marking animals, a device (in the shape of a stick) for reading these tags and identifying the animal from a greater distance, and software support that facilitates the record-keeping of animals and the overall operations of the farm.
Improving the efficiency of production and operations of animal farms is the focus of the technology startup Prostec. This autumn, it will compete in the University Startup World Cup 2018 for the title of the best student startup in the world and the first prize of $25,000.
– We got the idea for the system during conversations with local farmers engaged in fattening and breeding cattle, listening to their needs and problems. So far, we have won first place in the Smartup competition and second place in Elektroboja organized by eStudent, and our latest and greatest achievement is qualifying for the USWC, which has also declared us the best student startup in Croatia – explains Luka Posilović.

The Croatian qualifying competition was held on July 16, with ten finalists from various categories representing different Croatian universities: SmartStop, Morpheus, PlantPower, Sight, Prostec, Holoflake, Fiumica, ZUS, uSCOPE, and DCC. The second place was won by the ZUS team from the University of Rijeka, and the third place by the Morpheus team from the University of Zagreb.

University Startup World Cup, held from October 8 to 12 in Copenhagen, is the leading university startup program and global student startup competition, bringing together the most promising young talents from universities, professionals from companies, and entrepreneurs. The goal of the competition is to create a network of students where they can inspire each other, compare ideas, and turn academic knowledge into a sustainable high-growth business.
The search for farms
The winner of the USWC 2018 will receive a first prize of $25,000, while winners of individual categories will receive $5,000. An additional benefit for the USWC 2018 finalists is the opportunity to present their startup at the HighTech Summit in Denmark. The awarded system is just part of what the guys from Prostec are preparing.

– We are currently developing a new device with a greater range and lighter weight, and we are working on improving the software, for which we need financial assistance. We are looking for farms where we could conduct a pilot project and adapt the system to their real needs – says Posilović.
