The ideal of a successful woman until recently implied the so-called having it all, that is, a woman who manages to balance career and family. However, over time, women have grown tired of ‘having it all’ and embraced the term wellness, in a way putting themselves first and instead of additional tasks, began to reward themselves. Wellness has become everything – yoga, sales, organic food, Oprah, alternative medicine, antioxidants, meditation, almond milk, acai berries, kombucha…
One of the pioneers of the trend was a woman who has it all – Gwyneth Paltrow.
The American actress has been gathering information (and business contacts) for years while filming in various countries around the world, for example, where to eat the best ice cream in Italy, drink the best coffee in London, or where to go for bikini waxing in Paris. She began sending all this useful information from her kitchen in the form of a free newsletter, and then opened the GOOP portal and launched her own line of luxury products.
Her company is now worth $250 million.
After Paltrow, other famous ladies have also launched their products on the market, such as Miranda Kerr and Jessica Alba, but none of them are as successful, nor cover such a wide range of topics as GOOP. Culinary arts, home decor, exercise, body care, cosmetics, fashion… are just some of the areas.
Since the beginning of her business success, the actress has also gathered critics who accused her of elitism and of selling a lifestyle that most women cannot afford, while presenting herself as one of them – ordinary women, although that is clearly not the case.
She has received many negative comments for promoting products that supposedly ‘help health and improve quality of life’ (although their effectiveness is at least questionable), but none of this has affected her earnings, rather it has only increased her audience.
