Uljanik: Our Problems Are the Absence of a Systematic Financing Model and a Lack of Skilled Workers

The absence of a systematic financing model, a chronic lack of skilled workers, and an overall framework for monitoring shipbuilding as a complex industry have led to delays in financing, design, planning, and consequently in ship construction both in Rijeka and in Pula – Uljanik announced the causes of the problems in their shipyard as well as in 3. maj.

Both Uljanik and 3. maj are capable, the statement notes, “of building complex ships for the global market, but without systematic support allowed by EU rules, a guarantee fund for financing, or another similar model known to all European countries with serious shipbuilding, precious time is lost in the initial phases of preparation and design, which later causes delays and penalties,” reports Novi list.

The key to solving the delays in the production program, which causes losses daily, is the Restructuring Program of ULJANIK Shipyard, which opens the prerequisites for accelerating production across the Group and continuing the contracting and construction of complex ships for the global market, Uljanik officials state and conclude that “in the coming days, the entire system, society, and competent authorities must clearly determine whether we want to preserve shipbuilding as a strategic industry of our economy.”
