Metro’s Profit in the Last Three Quarters Exceeds One Billion Euros

Metro achieved a pre-tax profit of 1.071 billion euros in the first 9 months (9M), and 302 million euros in the third quarter (Q3) of the 2017/2018 business year.

Like-for-like sales of the group grew by 0.7 percent (9M), while in the third quarter it fell by 0.5 percent.

Metro Wholesale, which combines the Cash & Carry segment and food delivery companies, recorded a like-for-like sales growth of 1.2 percent in the first nine months of the 2017/2018 business year.

Under the influence of negative currency exchange rate developments, reported sales decreased by 1.3 percent, amounting to 22.1 billion euros.

At the level of the third quarter, like-for-like sales of Metro Wholesale grew by 1 percent, while reported sales of 7.3 billion euros were down by 2.8 percent compared to the previous year, also due to negative currency exchange rate developments.

Business with key customer groups, HoReCa customers, and small retailers continued to develop positively with significant growth. In the HoReCa sector, like-for-like sales grew by 3.8 percent in nine months, while in the third quarter it increased by 3.3 percent.

As for retailers, like-for-like sales in focus countries 2 increased by 3.7 percent in the third quarter (it fell by 0.6 percent in nine months).

Sales of Metro Wholesale achieved through delivery developed very positively, with an increase of approximately 17 percent, reaching 3.9 billion euros in the first nine months of the 2017/2018 business year.

In the third quarter of 2017/2018, sales increased by about 10 percent and reached a share of about 19 percent of total sales.

Metro confirmed its expectations for the 2017/2018 business year, forecasting a minimum growth of 0.5 percent and slight growth in EBITDA excluding real estate earnings.
