Almost a quarter of citizens in Germany are foreigners or German citizens of foreign origin, which is an increase of 4.4 percent compared to 2016, announced the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden, Germany, on Wednesday.
“At the end of 2017, there were 19.3 million citizens of foreign origin living in Germany. Of these, 51 percent are German citizens, while the rest are foreigners,” stated the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden.

The largest group of foreigners statistically, with 2.8 million, consists of citizens of Turkish origin, followed by Poles with 2.1 million and citizens of Russian origin with 1.4 million.
On the last day of 2017, there were also 398,000 persons of Croatian origin living in Germany, with or without German citizenship.
Statistics include those individuals who were either born outside Germany themselves or have one parent born abroad.
