Back in 2016, Uber acquired the tech company Otto in an effort to gain an advantage in the ‘arms race’ of autonomous technology, after which they launched Uber Freight, a smartphone application that connects truck drivers and shippers. However, the company emphasizes that this decision does not affect the application, which will continue to operate, reports Reuters.
Uber faces fierce competition in the field of autonomous car development, including Tesla and Alphabet’s Waymo, as well as traditional car manufacturers such as Ford and General Motors.
