Although the prices of all petroleum derivatives in Croatia have increased, we are still far from historical highs. Namely, in July 2014, a liter of eurosuper 95 cost 11.14 kuna, and a liter of eurodiesel cost 10.32 kuna. At that time, the price of a barrel of crude oil was around 106 dollars. Fortunately for us, when the barrel at one point reached 145 dollars per barrel (July 2008), the state set the prices, and the impact was not severe.
Let us reiterate, the prices of barrels of crude oil have no direct impact on the determination of petroleum derivative prices in Croatia, but serve as a measure of movement and an indicator of trends. Namely, oil companies set prices based on movements on the so-called Mediterranean exchange.

The prices of eurosuper 95 increased by about 21 lipa on Tuesday and now range from 10.34 to 10.39 kuna per liter at the largest companies. A liter of eurodiesel increased by about 14 lipa and now ranges from 9.80 to 9.83 kuna, depending on the company.
It is also worth mentioning that, according to the analysis Energy in Croatia prepared by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy in 2015, the average retail price of eurosuper 95 in 2012 was 10.51 kuna, in 2013 it was 10.34, the following year it was 10.47, and in 2015 it was 9.49 kuna. The average retail price of a liter of eurodiesel ranged from 9.87 kuna (2012), 9.69 (2013), 9.85 (2014), to 8.73 in 2015.
The average price of eurosuper 95 so far this year is 9.91 kuna, and eurodiesel is 9.40 kuna.

Since the beginning of the year, the price of a liter of gasoline has increased by 7.4 percent, and eurodiesel by 7.6 percent. Some studies from a few years ago show that a ten percent increase in fuel prices means one billion kuna in new costs for entrepreneurs. Therefore, based on that analysis, it can be roughly concluded that the costs for entrepreneurs this year, due to fuel, have increased by about 700 million kuna. Such data, of course, should be taken with caution, but it is a good indicator of how fuel price movements affect entrepreneurs.
Some analysts say there is a possibility of a pause in the rise of crude oil prices, but this is questionable given the potential problems in US-Iran relations and attacks in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the leading global shipping routes for crude oil.
– The average price of crude oil this year is expected to be 73 dollars per barrel (Brent), or 67 dollars per barrel (WTI) – say RBA analysts.
