In the Industrial Park Nova Gradiška, the company Krešimir, which will produce concrete, is expected to ‘settle in’. Every such news should delight us; however, there is at least one company in the Park – Elda – that opposes its arrival.

The owner and director of Elda, Dario Marenić, believes that the dust generated from concrete production would contaminate his sophisticated production of e-liquids for e-cigarettes.
Marenić explains that they produce e-liquids using the most modern equipment and technology, and he also mentions the local production of sports and active nutrition (Aminolabs) and the companies Clarum (pasta) and Klimaoprema as endangered. In our conversation, I sensed, to put it mildly, his dissatisfaction, and one interlocutor I spoke with, who is familiar with the local production activities, although he does not claim that pollution will occur, says that for the mentioned four companies, it is indeed about production that cannot tolerate even a minimum of dust particles.
There is no threat
Marenić is therefore angry at the management of the Industrial Park, but also at the local authorities in Nova Gradiška, who did not respond to my inquiry, but Ivana Vončina Toplek, the director of the Park, did.

– It is true that the Industrial Park is expanding with the aim of attracting investors who will create new jobs. One of the companies is Krešimir, and among the first questions we asked its owner were those related to pollution. The investment is being carried out according to an accepted professional study on environmental protection, and there is no threat to business – claims Vončina Toplek.
Concrete production should soon begin in the Industrial Park Nova Gradiška, but given that there are already companies there with sensitive productions that could be harmed by dust, nervousness is already starting to build. Perhaps passions would calm down if entrepreneurs communicated directly with each other.
I also spoke with her on the phone; she explained to me that the owner of the company Krešimir (it is stated in the Commercial Register that it is Kruno Ratković from Slavonski Brod) told her that they have, to translate more freely, special filters that prevent pollution. I also asked the company Krešimir whether they believe there are no reasons for Elda and other companies to fear that the production of concrete will pollute the Industrial Park with dust, but I did not receive a response.

I am neither an expert in concrete production nor in the mentioned productions in the Park, and I would not take sides. The fact that the Park director Vončina Toplek claims that there is no danger of jeopardizing production in other companies in the Park should mean something, considering that it is a statement from a responsible person. In my opinion, this should be enough to ease the tension among entrepreneurs because it would be really awkward for the Park director if the opposite were to happen.
The only problem
However, what is, at least for now, a certain problem in this story is the lack of communication among the main actors, which can create mutual aversion in the relationship between the investor and, for example, Marenić, without them having even said good day to each other.

If I had a company that requires the highest possible cleanliness of production, I would certainly be concerned if I heard that a concrete plant was being built near my company. Of course, I would first contact the Park director, but I might be happiest if the owner of the concrete plant invited the owners of all the companies in the Park to lunch, presented his project to them, and tried to reassure them with evidence that there would be no pollution. It should also be noted that the mentioned four companies could lose their image as producers whose production is completely clean due to the proximity of the concrete plant. At lunch, they could share the difficulties they face in business and thus gain more useful information than just talking about the concrete plant.
I think that the owner of Krešimir, Kruno Ratković, should do this not only because it would show that he does not think only of himself, but also because, as is often said, one should live among people, that is, among entrepreneurs. 
POST SCRIPTUM Marenić tells me that he has also spoken with people from Clarum (pasta production) and claims that they also oppose the arrival of the concrete plant, and he also mentions the production of sports and active nutrition that Atlantic Grupa sold to the Belgian Aminolabs last year and the company Klimaoprema. These three companies also have sophisticated production. I asked them what they think about this, but they did not respond, and only Atlantic Grupa stated that they do not want to comment on something that is not theirs. It seems that their silence, although they have not yet publicly opposed the arrival of the concrete plant, speaks more about the fact that they too have concerns about the consequences of its construction, but are waiting for developments. And this shows that contact among the actors in the story is necessary.
