Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli reiterated on Sunday in Susak that it is necessary to increase salaries in tourism to stop the outflow of staff, by having the government reduce tax burdens and employers find money in their reserves.
Cappelli, responding to a journalist’s question, stated that his statement regarding the necessity of salary increases was misrepresented, as he never mentioned 30 percent in that context.
He said that with salary increases, as well as job security for more months per year than before, it is necessary to deal with the approval of work permits in Slovenia for workers from Croatia, and soon in Austria as well.

The quotas for foreign workers in Croatia will also need to be increased from the currently approved 8,660, he noted. The tourist season must not be jeopardized, nor should any hotel remain closed due to a lack of workers, the Croatian tourism minister emphasized.
Speaking about the number of guests, Cappelli noted that the same level as last year in July has now been reached, that by the end of July an increase of four to five percent is expected, and by the end of the year, there should be five to seven percent more tourists, he highlighted.
