Finance Minister Zdravko Marić stated on Thursday after the Government session that the tax refund will begin on August 6 and that the vast majority of the funds, if not all, should be paid out by the end of that month.
“The refund starts on August 6 and we expect, in line with our projections and dynamics, that the vast majority, if not all, will be paid out by the end of August. We have published the figures on the Tax Administration’s website, we are talking about around 880 million kuna in refunds, or about 130 million kuna needed for payment,” said Marić, responding to a journalist’s inquiry.
He also emphasized that the deadline for appeals on tax refund decisions, of which just over 550,000 have been issued, is July 31. He pointed out that this deadline can be extended if necessary in individual cases, depending on when the decision was received.
The deadline for citizens to file income tax for 2017 was the end of February. Citizens were supposed to receive provisional tax decisions by the end of June this year, and they can file an objection to that decision if they believe the data in the decision is incorrect or incomplete, no later than July 31. The first-instance body decides on the objection with a decision within 30 days from the date of receipt of the objection. After that, starting from the beginning of August, the refunds of overpaid income tax for 2017 should begin.
