For the Trogir-Finnish giant that dominated the entire Trogir while on the slipway, an eighteen-day tour has begun. Loaded onto a heavy cargo transport ship, the icebreaker, whose bow section is 167 meters long and has a carrying capacity of 44 thousand metric tons, has set sail for Helsinki.
Exactly nine days ago, this giant slid off the Trogir slipway for the first time bow-first.
“These are three breakthroughs, three novelties for Brodotrogir. For the first time, we are building an icebreaker. For the first time, we are welding very thick high-strength plates. For the first time, we are launching a ship bow-first,” said Danko Končar, the owner of Brodotrogir, on that occasion.
We should remind that the construction of this ship was very demanding, as evidenced by the fact that it is the first ship of this kind in the world. The complexity relates to the technical characteristics that needed to be met in accordance with the requirements of ice class ARC 7, which implies the transport of cargo and navigation in the most severe polar conditions. The difference in construction compared to other types of ships is reflected in the use and installation of stronger and thicker material, especially in the bow section of the hull, which due to ice and low temperatures of up to -50°C must be built according to special conditions and the application of special technologies, explain those from Brodotrogir.
