All the stricter regulations regarding the use of refrigerants worldwide have brought about huge changes in refrigeration and air conditioning technology. As of January 1, 2015, a regulation came into force that brought significant changes to the market for refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, leading to the abandonment of most refrigerants previously used in refrigeration technology. However, the measures coming into effect in 2020 from the F-Gas regulation are even stricter and could have consequences especially for the food supply chain, given that the entire chain, from food production and distribution to logistics, depends on refrigeration technology.
The implementation of the F-Gas regulation, i.e., the measures coming into effect in 2020, brings a series of novelties. Thus, most devices and equipment that have been used until now will no longer be allowed on the market. More precisely, as of 2020, refrigerants (freons) with a global warming potential greater than 2500, such as R404A in the refrigeration industry (supermarkets), will be banned.
