74 schools involved in the School for Life program receive free mobile internet

The Ministry of Science and Education (MZO) has signed cooperation agreements with three Croatian telecommunications operators as part of the implementation of the experimental pilot program School for Life, which will provide students and teachers in 74 schools where the program will be implemented with access to digital educational content via wireless internet access.

>>>13.5 million kuna for equipping experimental schools

The contract was signed with HT, Tele2, and Vipnet, which, as announced by the MZO, will provide all students and teachers in schools where the experimental School for Life program will be implemented, who choose to use the free content of the telecommunications operators, with a SIM card and free access to certain websites with educational content for 2 GB of traffic per month for the 2018/2019 school year.

>>>Divjak: About 1300 teachers and 6000 students will participate in the experimental phase

Thanking the telecommunications operators for their involvement in the project, Minister Blaženka Divjak also reminded that computer science is being introduced as a mandatory subject in all primary schools in the fifth and sixth grades and that in cooperation with IRIM, 45,000 micro:bits have been provided for teaching in primary schools across Croatia this school year.

>>>Divjak: Another 600 million kuna for science from EU funds by the end of the year

“All of this is part of the digital transformation of schools because our students deserve equal opportunities as their peers in other EU countries. This is a great example of quality cooperation between the economy and the state,” emphasized the minister.

>>>Divjak: Croatia is the last in Europe to introduce computer science as a mandatory subject

Representatives of the telecommunications operators also expressed their satisfaction with the project’s involvement, including Richard Brešković, Director of the Private Customer Marketing Sector at HT, Monika Majstorović, Director of Product Marketing and Strategy at Tele2 Croatia, and Lordan Kondić, Marketing Director at Vipnet, emphasizing the importance of developing STEM, improving digital literacy, and introducing an interactive approach to learning.
