The southern German state of Bavaria has begun patrols along the Austrian border, with its own border police.

A few days ago, Bavaria reached an agreement with the federal police regarding the division of powers so that it can control the border, but only with the permission or at the request of the federal border police.
The Bavarian police do not have the right to operate independently, and the patrols will also not have the right to deny entry to refugees and return them to Austria.

German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, who is from Bavaria, was a key proponent of stricter migration policies and also brought Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government to the brink of collapse due to threats to close the border for certain groups of migrants.
Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soeder stated that Bavaria is making its borders safer, mentioned “good results,” and emphasized that cooperation with the federal police will be very good.
