Solomon joined the investment bank in 1999 as a partner and will succeed Lloyd Blankfein as CEO, who is one of the longest-serving executives on Wall Street.

Earlier this year, Blankfein stated to CNBC that he expects Solomon to succeed him once he decides to leave the bank, while in March, the Wall Street Journal reported that Blankfein could step down from his position by the end of the year.
