Over 3 million guests visited Russia during the World Cup, said the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev just a day after the final between Croatia and France.
“This is almost twice as many guests as during the (Winter) Olympics,” commented Medvedev, as reported by the Russian news agency Interfax. Russia allowed entry into the country without visas during the World Cup.

Prime Minister Medvedev also emphasized that the influx of foreign guests to Russia positively affected the perception that the world has of Russians and their country.
In the past month, Russia hosted the 21st World Cup in its 11 cities on the European side of the country.
