Russia was the target of nearly “25 million cyber attacks” during the World Cup, President Vladimir Putin said on Monday, without specifying where the attacks originated or who might be behind them.
“During the World Cup, nearly 25 million cyber attacks or other criminal acts aimed at the information infrastructure in Russia were neutralized, which were in one way or another connected to the World Cup,” Putin said at a meeting with Russian intelligence services.

Representatives from 55 intelligence agencies from 34 countries who worked on securing the tournament were present at the meeting.
Putin emphasized that thanks to strict Russian security, there were no “serious incidents” and that people who came to Russia truly felt safe.
Russia, the host of the World Cup from June 14 to July 15, hosted players and fans in 11 cities and at 12 stadiums.
