The Kenyan public has reacted angrily to the information that 20 parliamentary representatives traveled to the World Cup matches in Russia at the expense of taxpayers, reports the BBC.
They will watch four matches there, including the final. Travel and two-week stay costs in Russia are estimated to amount to hundreds of thousands of US dollars.
This might have gone under the radar if the representatives had not been posting selfies taken at the stadiums.
Senator Millicent Omanga posted photos of herself in a Croatian jersey and with Croatian fans before the match against England on her Facebook profile, and it seemed like she was having a great time.
Sports Minister Rashid Echesa defended himself by saying that he approved the travel for only six representatives with the aim of learning how major sporting events are organized.
Kenya has no success in football, but it is one of the most successful athletic nations and has bid to host the World Athletics Championships in 2023.
However, many Kenyans believe this is a waste of money. The average salary in the country is $150.
