Plenković: Let there be penalties, the main thing is to achieve victory

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, and the Speaker of the Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, ahead of their trip to Moscow for the semi-final match of the World Cup between Croatia and England (8 PM) stated that they expect a great atmosphere at the stadium and another success for the “Vatreni”.

“Gordan and I have taken both versions of the Croatian jersey for today. I expect victory, a great atmosphere, and another great performance from our players and coach. This is truly a huge day for Croatia, Croatian sports, and football. Twice in 20 years, a country of our size has reached the semi-finals; these are successes we will remember for generations. We hope for victory and the final. It is important that we win; that is what counts in the end,” said Plenković.

When asked if he plans to travel to Moscow for the final on Sunday in case of tonight’s victory, the Prime Minister rationally replied:

“Slowly, step by step. Let’s first win; everything else can be resolved by Sunday.”

The Speaker of the Parliament recalled Croatia’s first appearance in the World Cup semi-finals 20 years ago in France.

“They are playing so well and radiating positive energy that we expect another victory. We were in the semi-finals in ’98, and that remains permanently etched in our memories; we told our children about it, and it seemed like a dream to them. Now I look at my 11-year-old son, and it is incredible the emotion we all share and believe in victory. Let there be penalties, the main thing is to achieve victory.”
